Real Oviedo suffered a 2-0 loss against RCD Espanyol in Barcelona today and missed out on promotion after a season of excitement, in which the team gave everything and fought to the end for the dream of returning to the highest level of Spanish football.

The 1-0 scoreline from the first leg made the home team go all out in search of a goal right from the kick-off. The Catalán team threatened consistently during a first half in which Real Oviedo tried to keep a clean sheet, Puado eventually opened the scoring in the 44th minute.

The Espanyol forward took advantage of a corner to get free of Seoane and turn the ball past Leo Román from inside the six-yard box, with the keeper unable to do anything. 1-0 and a morale boost for the hosts, who doubled the lead with a second goal before the break. In first-half stoppage time, Puado again found the back of the net, doubling the home team's advantage. 2-0 and a slap in the face for Real Oviedo, who went into the interval needing a goal to force extra time.

Luis Carrión made two half-time substitutions. Abel Bretones and Borja Sánchez entered the fray to change things, and Real Oviedo came out with more energy in the second half. The Carbayones went in search of the goal against an Espanyol side who tried to hold their advantage and do damage to the Asturians through counter attacks.

In the 63rd minute, Carrión made further changes, with Santi Cazorla and Masca joining the attack. The Portuguese forward had one of the best chances for Oviedo in the second half, although the striker narrowly failed to get on the end of a good cross from Abel Bretones. Borja Bastón came on for the last 15 minutes, and Real Oviedo called for a penalty for a grab by Cabrera on the number 9. Despite this, Cordero Vego waved the appeals away, and the 2-0 score remained unchanged.

In stoppage time, after a shot by Borja Sánchez that the goalkeeper failed to hold on to, Bastón had the chance that Real Oviedo fans were praying for, but his shot was deflected by Joan García for a corner. This final passage of play brought the game came to an end, and the dream of returning to the First Division faded away.

With pride and heads held high, Real Oviedo’s fans have found renewed belief and excitement in their team. Now it’s time to get up, recharge the batteries, and move forward with optimism and enthusiasm.
